2019 Tax Deadlines You Need to Know

7 January 2020 > Tax Tips

As Tax season approaches, we want to make sure you have your taxes filed on time. Here are the tax dates you’ll need to know.

Important: All requests for extensions on your tax returns must be received by the IRS by the original filing deadline (3/15/19, or 4/15/18 - depending on the type of tax return that you’re filing).

Also Important: Requesting an extension to file your taxes is not a request to extend your tax payment. Your taxes must be paid by the applicable tax deadline.

1. First Day to File Your Taxes

The IRS will start to accept tax returns for the 2019 tax year on January 27, 2020.

2. Business Tax Deadline

The original dates for filing business tax returns are as follows:

  1. S-corps: 3/16/2020

  2. Partnership: 3/16/2020

  3. C-corps: 4/15/2020

3. Personal Tax Deadline

The IRS will accept personal tax returns starting January 27, 2020 until April 15, 2020 without a tax extension.

4. Business Extension Deadline

If you extended your business tax return (extensions need to be filed by the original tax deadline), you’ll need to file by:

  1. S-corps: 9/15/2020

  2. Partnerships: 9/15/2020

  3. C-corps: 10/15/2020

5. Personal Extension Deadline

If you decide to file an extension, your new tax return deadline will be extended by 6 months to October 15, 2019. However, an extension to file is not an extension to pay. You are still required to pay any taxes owed by the original deadline of April 15, 2020.

6. 2019 Quarterly Estimated Payment Deadlines

Quarterly estimated tax payments must be made by the following dates:

  1. First Quarter: 4/15/2020

  2. Second Quarter: 6/15/2020

  3. Third Quarter: 9/15/2020

  4. Fourth Quarter: 1/15/2021
